5 games to play during a snowstorm

A snowstorm in a big city is not just about the weather. It’s about a pause. It’s about a moment when even the fastest rhythm slows down. The roads are empty, meetings are postponed, the calendar suddenly becomes less aggressive. And it’s on days like these that you especially feel the value of home, family, and time with your children.

For entrepreneurs, this is an interesting test. We’re used to measuring efficiency by hours of work, negotiations, and numbers. But real strategy often begins where you know how to switch. A snowstorm is a reminder: a strong system works even when you’re on pause. So, you can afford an evening without Zoom, but with your family.

I often think that toys are a tool. A tool for concentration, development, logic. And even character. Especially for children, for whom it’s important to compete, build, invent, and try on different roles.

Here are my top 5 games during a snowstorm that captivate children:

1. Magnetic constructor
Building during a storm symbolically. It's about thinking in systems. About strategy. Children learn to see the structure, and adults remember what pure logic looks like without slides and presentations.

2. Track with cars
Speed, trajectory, experiments. A small model of the market: if you set the angle incorrectly, the car won't reach the destination. A great way to show children cause-and-effect relationships and the importance of testing.

3. Dolls with a set of tents and a crib
This is about modeling the world. Children create their own space, think through scenarios, learn care and responsibility. And adults see how their children's emotional intelligence is formed

4. Toy kitchen
A mini-model of an operational business. Roles, processes, "orders", results. Through play, children understand the sequence of actions and the value of teamwork. It is also a safe space for the first managerial decisions.

5. Instant camera with black and white photos
Capture moments. Even a storm becomes history. Children learn to see the details, and adults learn to appreciate the process, not just the result.

The snowstorm passes. But the memories of the evening when parents put down the phone and together with the child built, cooked or created their own little world remain. And, perhaps, such moments are the best investment of all possible.
